An Ode To The Writers,
You say it’s for yourself
but instead of peace
publishing your writing
brings you on a rollercoaster of emotion
questioning every line written
doubting yourself to the point of nearly quitting
you say it’s for yourself
but you’re not content till people like it
you say you’d still write
even if it was just for me
but I can tell you’re not satisfied
it’s clear to see
you say the process makes you happy
but I’ve yet to see you smile
until you hit a number you approve
so tell me this
what are you truly trying to prove?
To The Writers,
Essentially, this poem is a personal journal entry shared publicly. As much as I’m focused on the act of creating, I still, at times, get caught up in the distraction of metrics and external validation.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I sense anyone who publicly shares their work has at some point experienced the internal dialogue described in my poem.
This is me sharing the truth and reality of the behind-the-scenes. I think it’s important to share the whole experience and not just the highlights or parts we think people want to see.

Niall
