To The Writers,
In this first poem of the series, I reflect on why I write and why I don’t.
As you read the poem, I invite you to reflect on why you write.
"It turns out that when you make something truly for yourself, you’re doing the best thing you possibly can for the audience." - Rick Rubin

An Ode To The Writers,
You don’t write to build a following.
You write to figure life out.
You don’t write for popularity.
You write to find clarity.
You don’t write to have all the answers.
You write to ask more questions.
You don’t write to solve everyone’s problems.
You write to solve your own.
You don’t write to be rewarded.
You write because writing is the reward.
You don’t write to escape.
You write to feel present.
You don’t write to be right.
You write to explore.
You don’t write because you have to.
You write to feel alive.
So when writing doesn’t feel right,
Ask yourself,
Am I writing for the love of it?
Am I writing to be free?
Am I writing for you or am I writing for me?
Reader Reflection:

Yes it does feel like a call something almost primal, something you cannot deny, and definately energising for your soul
I write cos I hear music and words in my head, always allow myself to be 'who I am' Walked away from things I thought I wanted, but experience of them in reality was not what I wanted - being an artist is a series of growing? I guess I'm writing from my experiences and yes for me, but sometimes I wonder where it comes from ?
