Yes it does feel like a call something almost primal, something you cannot deny, and definately energising for your soul

Energising... that is exactly how it feels for me too!

I write cos I hear music and words in my head, always allow myself to be 'who I am' Walked away from things I thought I wanted, but experience of them in reality was not what I wanted - being an artist is a series of growing? I guess I'm writing from my experiences and yes for me, but sometimes I wonder where it comes from ?

Beautiful, Sally! Where it comes from? I'm not sure lol but it's energizing and I'm glad I pay attention to the call to create. Sounds like you're answering that call too :)

Great piece Niall.

It took me around 1.5 years of writing until I discovered this.

Just yesterday I was reflecting on the reason behind the urge to write and wrote a note on it. Writing is always more for self than others. It is just that as humans we are connected and so our writing may resonate with others.

This is fabulous, Niall. I was only this morning journaling about my shift from writing what others wanted me to write (editors) to writing what was in my heart. To do that, I had to walk away from a decent freelance income to... nothing. No income at all. It's been four years since I made that change, and I can say that I love writing again. Because I'm writing only what I want to write, saying only what I want to say. My hope is that it speaks to others beyond myself and has some merit besides personal clarity for me.

Serendipity!! Thank you, Jeannie. Happy that my experience connects to yours in some way. Your immediate support of this new project means a lot to me. Walking away from security is a brave act. I'm delighted that despite the uncertainty around income, you trusted your instincts and found the reward in reconnecting with your writing. I'd love to learn more about your writing journey.

That means a lot, Niall. Maybe I will consider writing a series on how I began as a writer, finding moderate success in a very niched genre of Catholic spirituality, then walked away from all of it to start over. I'm now in the very difficult "messy middle."
